Makerspace Workshop Survey

This is just a quick survey for you to give us here at the Makerspace some feedback on our Workshop schedules and topics. All ideas will be taken into to account so we can accommodate as many people as possible.

Free VR Modelling and 3D Printing Workshop

The Makerspace will be holding a free VR modelling and 3D printing workshop on Thursday, October 4th from 6 – 8pm. Come to sculpt and model a figure using our virtual reality equipment and sculpting software as well as our 3D Printers to create your own model, print it, and take it home for free! This workshop will be a great introduction to all aspects of VR as well as 3D Printing.

Intro to Textiles – Minimalist Wallet

The Makerspace will be holding a free Intro to Textiles workshop on Thursday, October 4th from 12 – 2pm. It will be centred around creating your own wallet or phone case using our sewing machines! This workshop will be a great introduction to the basics of sewing, which is fundamental to more complicated projects. Come, sew, and take your creation home for free!

Free Arduino Workshop – Servo and Stepper Motors

The Makerspace will be holding a free introduction to Arduino workshop on Tuesday, October 2nd from 12 – 2pm. This workshop will cover all of the basic aspects of Arduino programming and circuit design as well as more complex and practical applications such as servo and stepper motors. These applications are a fundamental piece of super cool projects!

Intro to Textiles Workshop

The Makerspace will be holding a free Intro to Textiles Workshop on Thursday, September 27th from 6 – 8pm. The subject of the Workshop will be creating your own, personalized wallet. This is a simple project however, it covers many fundamental skills of sewing and planning. We have fabric on hand however you are more than welcome to bring your own if you prefer.

Arduino Workshop #2

The Makerspace will be holding a free Introduction to Arduino Workshop on Thursday, September 27th from 12 – 2pm. This is our second Arduino Workshop and will cover slightly more complex ideas (such as sensors and servo motors) than the first. It still covers all of the basics however, and attending the first workshop is not a pre-requisite.

Intro to CAD and 3D Printing Workshop

The Makerspace will be holding a free Intro to CAD and 3D Printing workshop on Wednesday, September 26th from 12 – 2 pm. This workshop will be a great introduction to the design, preparation and print of 3D Models which is fundamental for doing complex 3D designs and prints. Design your own model, print it, and take it home for free!

Free Arduino Workshop – Introduction to Arduino

The Makerspace is holding a free Introduction to Arduino workshop on Wednesday, September 12th, 2018 from 12pm – 2pm. This workshop is a great introduction to Arduino Uno’s – what they are and how to use them! The concepts covered will be foundational for more complex applications of the Arduino Uno!

Boardgame Creators Make-a-thon

Boardgame Creators Make-a-thon the Commons Makerspace - Sponsored by Memorial University of Newfoundland, Queen Elizabeth II Library, The Commons Makerspace, and Midgard Gaming

The event will be held at the QEII Library on Saturday, August 18th. Because of limited supplies and space, we are going to be capping this event at 20 people. If you want to come, please sign up above.

This is an all-day event

Registration begins at 8 am

Awards will be given at 5 pm

You will form groups and then build a board game, supplies will be provided. The Makerspace tools and DMC printing will be made available: this includes small 3D prints, vinyl cutting, and card printing. If you want to do any 3D modeling or graphic design for printing, there will be a few computers available or you can bring your own.

Free pizza for lunch will be provided!

The team that makes the most interesting and fun game will win Arduino Kits.

The runner-up team will win $25 gift cards to Midgard Gaming.

Free 3D Design Workshop – Intro to CAD and 3D Printers

The Makerspace is holding a FREE workshop next Wednesday, August 8th from 12-2PM! This workshop will teach the basics of 3D design, including how to design a simple 3D object from scratch, how to import the object to a 3D printer, and how they operate. These concepts open up the doors to a lot of design possibilities, and answer a lot of commonly asked questions!
