The Digital Media Centre

The Digital Media Centre is a resource to facilitate development of the desktop computing abilities of our customers – faculty, staff and students. We believe that technology should be an empowering tool for teaching and learning.
The primary focus of the DMC is multimedia. We make every effort to keep current with new technologies and provide access to specialized software or devices for members of the university. To make an appointment or for general inquiries call 864-2356 or 864-6159.

Need to print BIG? We offer LARGE format printing. Prices vary by size of print and material.


Using the software OmniPage and Adobe Acrobat we are able to scan your typed paper documents and save them as text files you can edit on your computer.

You can scan images to pdf, jpg or tiff.

Optical Character Recognition


The Digital Media Centre has a Lexmark C925 for color printing. We also have a HP Laserjet 4300tn for high quality black and white printing.

Printing can be done on standard 8.5″ by 11″, 8.5″ by 14″ or 11″ by 17″ paper.

The cost for printing is:
$0.35 per 8.5″ x 11″ colour page
$0.05 per 8.5″ x 11″ black & white page
$1.35 per 8.5×11 glossy paper
$1.00 for 11″ x 17″

Media Conversion

The Digital Media Center has the capabilities for the creation of both audio / video and data disks in the cd and dvd formats. Please speak with our staff to you use the proper format for your needs.

The Digital Media Center has an external lightscribe burner for clients to use. Clients will need to bring in their own discs and keep in mind that lightscribe burning takes longer than burning a regular disc. An example of a lightscribe decorated disc can be found here.


Video Editing

Here at the DMC, we can assist you with a large variety of video projects. Our powerful media equipment will provide you with the tools you need to speed up long projects and make quick projects a breeze. Currently, we have in place one Quad-Core Intel Xeon Mac Pro, and a Dual-Core Powermac G5 with the ability to input and output from hi-8 and VHS.

Important Considerations

All video formats are not equal!It is important to that you clearly define your requirements prior to video capture/editing. The time required to convert a video or file can often take over 4-5 hours, please plan your project accordingly . Feel free to come in an speak with the staff so we can help you find best way to achieve the results you desire.

Use of copyrighted material without written permission from the owner is strictly prohibited. We will not copy material in violation of laws regarding video materials.
